corporate social responsibility task force

CHAIR
H. Peter Karoff Chairman & Founder, The Philanthropic Initiative

overview
MBR’s CSR Task Force was established in 1999. Since that time, it has focused on two agenda items: 1) consider how the quantity and quality of charitable giving in the Commonwealth could be enhanced; and 2) strategies for encouraging, managing and improving corporate social responsibility in Massachusetts in the face of rapidly changing corporate ownership. The Task Force advances its agenda through publications, public forums, and public-private partnerships.

Members of the Task Force offer their managerial perspective on matters of corporate social responsibility by:

  • Creating public discourse through convening Statewide Corporate Social Responsibility Forums to engage in a discussion about strategies for encouraging, managing and improving corporate social responsibility in Massachusetts in the face of rapidly changing corporate ownership;
  • Engaging in partnerships with both the public and private sector to provide MBR member expertise.  Examples include co-sponsoring corporate philanthropy events with Associated Grant Makers, sponsoring teams of students from UMass Boston’s Emerging Leaders Program, and advising Governor Patrick’s office on CSR and workplace volunteer programs; and
  • Publishing reports, such as the highly acclaimed Primer on Strategic Corporate Philanthropy and the transcript of the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum held at Putnam Investments in Boston.
